Reflection

I’ve gained a profound understanding of my research project through overcoming obstacles and creating charts and graphs. This process has illuminated the intricate nature of the topic and the need for a multifaceted solution. Various factors can influence an athlete’s chances of tearing their ACL, particularly female athletes. While I couldn’t analyze every variable, such as the menstrual cycle or female anatomy compared to men, these factors could play a role in ACL tears.

After completing my research project and identifying potential impactful factors, it’s evident that this issue demands a comprehensive approach. The variables I’ve uncovered could serve as a foundation for future research, as they provide a clearer understanding of variables with significant consequences.

Throughout this journey, I’ve acquired valuable skills and grown my confidence. Conducting research independently, presenting my findings to others, and writing an academic paper have honed my problem-solving abilities, investigative skills, and the ability to generate creative questions for deeper learning. Additionally, presenting and defending my research paper has significantly boosted my confidence, demonstrating my capabilities with hard work and determination.

As I transition into undergraduate and postgraduate work environments, I’ll have the opportunity to apply these skills independently, investigate complex issues, and create innovative solutions. Furthermore, the experience of writing and presenting an extensive research paper has instilled in me a deep sense of self-assurance, recognizing my potential for success with dedication and perseverance.

Abstract

My research project focuses on the potential factors impacting NWSL players chances of tearing their ACL. As more and more female professional soccer players tear there ACL, more are asking why no one is trying to fix this issue. With no research analyzing professional women's players in the United States, I chose to observe a wide range of variables on NWSL players through Instagram and a stats tracking website called FbRef. Players age (up to 24 years old), time in game (first half), game in season (first), cleat, and brand (mercurial) were the most influential variables out of 24.

Acknowledgments

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to my research project and supported me throughout the process. I want to specifically thank Ms. Petri at Rock Canyon High School for assisting me when I was initially selecting my research question and providing valuable guidance when I encountered challenges. Additionally, I want to express my appreciation to my dad for teaching me more about Google Spreadsheets when I encountered difficulties in organizing my data from my spreadsheet into pie charts and graphs. His support and guidance were instrumental in helping me understand how each column needed to be specifically categorized to enable accurate comparison and analysis of variables on charts and graphs.

My Next Adventure

I will be attending Daemen University, playing soccer and studying Natural Science with a specialization in Health Science. I have so much interest and passion in the sports science and health world and I cannot wait to see where it takes me!
